Head of the synthesis at the Department of Organic Chemistry, UCT Prague
Dr Jiri Tuma is an aspiring young scientist with a main academic background in organic synthesis. In 2012 acquired the support of the Aktion programme, which allowed him to join the research group of Prof. Wolfgang Lindner, a worldwide renowned pioneer of brush-type stationary phases for chromatography. This introduction to the design and synthesis of chiral stationary phases predetermined his doctorate, which focused on the development of silica-based heterogeneous organocatalysts and derived stationary phases for HPLC.
After acquiring his PhD, Dr Tuma participated in a three-year project at UCT Prague as a head of synthesis (2018-2020). The gained skills and experience in independent laboratory work and team leadership resulted in his acceptance into the prestigious Horizon 2020 European SME Innovation Associate programme where he spent one year as a postdoctoral research fellow at CHIRON AS, a well-established industrial company in Trondheim, Norway (2021)
